The Small Moments

Much of life’s greatest joy and value comes from the small moments in our lives. Those are the moments between appointments, after meaningful conversations, between the chapters of a good book, checking in on a sleeping child. They are those tiny periods of silence when we are able to marinate (for lack of a better word), in the goodness of life. In those moments we can see things just a bit clearer – a bit more like they really are. In those moments we know that we have been blessed and are, momentarily, happy.

But too often we waste them. They come and go and we pay them little or no attention. They are nice, but transient. They don’t last and are soon forgotten. They become a lost treasure we may not have even known we had.

But it’s possible to build on those small moments by simply acknowledging them as they occur and perhaps even lengthening them for another moment or two before heading on to the next thing on our agenda.  We move on so quickly because those small moments seem trivial. But they aren’t. They are a window into the essence of life.

Today: Notice the small moments that come along. Enjoy them. Extend them. Know that you are blessed.
