Distraction

Normally being distracted is viewed as a negative thing, but it isn’t always. From time to time we get into a negative mode of operating and can’t seem to break out of it. Things just keep going wrong – and more wrong the harder we try. At that point, distraction is something not only good but desperately needed.

Whenever you are working and find that you are wasting a lot of time – spinning your wheels and wishing beyond hope that you could get back to being more productive, try a little distraction. Take the dog for a walk. Go get a cup of coffee and chat a bit with a coworker. Get up from your workspace and head for the restroom for a few minutes. Whatever you need to do to get away from whatever it is you are working on, do. When you sit down again, you will invariably find that things begin to click for you again. Sometimes the simplest distraction can reset your mind and that’s all you need.
